Black panipitha completed

ByKoen van Velzen 18-07-201411-02-2026
square panipitha in black granite with Lotus Motif

After much sanding and polishing finally the black square panipitha finished. It already has a nice polish, and once it's out of my dusty studio, I will give it a good rub so it gets a nice shine. The panipitha is carved out of black granite, and it's about 40 x 40 x 40 cms tall, with a spout of 16 cms wide.

    Ardha Matsyendra in marble

For the exhibition at Art and Castles I also carved a statue in white marble: Ardha Matsyendra. It's a lady in a Hatha yoga posture, the Ardha-Matsyendrasana ie the half King of the Fish Pose. The sculpture is approximately 70 cms tall (and very heavy, as I noticed when installing it at Castle Gronsveld!) The theme…

A disaster with far-reaching consequences Over some time, this will be old news, but for now, this remains fresh in everyone's memory: a huge fire that brought down the roof of Notre Dame in Paris, at 15 april 2019. During the ongoing restoration fire broke out somewhere around the base of the…

    Boulder and oak-tree and stone

A pebble tree for the commune in Amersfoort Today a new group home for people with a mild intellectual disability inaugurated. I've lately been involved (pro deo) in a number of things in the new home, including the stone-tree and the boulder in the garden. The stone-tree was a special project for me,…

    Video tour of the workshop

In this short video, in English, I'm showing the latest projects we're working on: the two mirrored griffins with shield in front of Schloss Preetz in East Germany, the eight statues for the Minervalaan in Amsterdam, the new edging stones in French limestone for the Nicholas Church in Helvoirt, the large black-granite Shivalingam and Yoni off Croatia, the …

    The five-taloned Falcon

'Idleness is the beginning of all vices’ and 'There's never enough time to do all the nothing you want', that's why after a period of carving ornaments for six days a week I went right on to the next project. I am now busy working on the falcon for the Valckeniershuis in Franeker. After the weathered original was supplemented…
