Video of a coat-of-arms in sandstone

ByKoen van Velzen 28-12-201612-02-2026

Of the coat-of-arms I recently carved in sandstone, I also took a number of video recordings. Read here more about this project, and below are a few links to some previous ones

Family crests or coat-of arms:

  • a coat of arms in Belgian bluestone
  • a coat of arms in limestone, or polychromed them as it's termed
  • a coat of arms with shield bearers in Bentheim sandstone

Mer or lass: a gable stone relief in direct carving method

I've started working on a gable stone/house sign of a mermaid . After a quick sketch on the stone, I just began carving; later will follow the details, the design of the background, and the finer finish. Read more…

Panipitha: from block to upper part

From a number of blocks of granite I started carving a large lingam and yoni (panipitha) from the beginning. Below the course of the process of the upper part of the panipitha. A block of granite (no idea what kind, but it is yellow-pink-brownish and quite big) of 120 x 120 x 45 cm I had intended for…

A directional arrow in a large basalt boulder…can you do that???

A nice commision in between: carving a sign into a stone. My sister-in-law asked me if I could make a boulder with the word 'temple' carved into it’ and an arrow pointing to the entrance. I liked the idea, but I thought it would be a bit poor in execution. That's why I went to a garden center, bought a large basalt boulder there…

    Cinema Royal (with update)

Art Deco In the days that life still was good and film title still brilliant, in the Hinthamer street in Den Bosch there was a cinema: Cinema Royal. On a photograph from approximately 1935 we see Claudette Colbert and Clark Gable star in the poster of the movie 'It Happened One Night'. On a…

    A gravestone with wreath

For the grave of my friend's wife I carved a headstone, a gravestone, with a flower wreath in the shape of a heart. She loved pink and soft colors, and the simple design was based on the flower wreath that her children put on her grave. The gravestone is tapered…
